Unicoi State Park Camping

There are a number of camping areas in the park, all of which are concentrated in the northeastern section of the park. The single site campsites are located off of two small loop roads that connect with Unicoi Campground Road. The parking lot for the group campsite is also found just off of the main park road.

Little Brook spur is a small camp loop road with RV and tent sites. Laurel Ridge is one section of a larger camp loop road and also has RV and tent sites. All of these campsites have water, electricity, a fire ring, and a picnic table. There is a limit of six people per site. There are a number of double sites that are suitable for two RV's or two tents.

Hickory Hollow - walk in tent campsites

There is a parking lot off of the large camping loop road where you can walk into the Hickory Hollow campground. A picnic table and fire ring are found at every campsite. There is water at every third site. Campsites cost $25 per night and there is a 6 person per-site limit.

Big Brook RV

This area accommodates RVs and has full hook ups at each site. Every campsite also has a fire ring and picnic table. Sites range from $28 to 53$ per night.

The Squirrel's Nest - Individual and Group Camping

This camping facility is a little different from what you find in many other campgrounds. The site consists of numerous platforms that are located on a steep hillside. The platforms are covered so there is no need for using a tent (in fact, tents are not allowed!). At the bottom of the slope is a flat area where there is a large fire ring, barbeque grills, picnic tables, and water. Bathrooms are a minute's walk from the campsite.

There are a total of 16 platforms and each can be used by up to 6 people. It is $15 per-night, per-platform. The Squirrel's nest is also available for groups, although unless you rent all the platforms other people may stay at the site.

Camping Supplies

There is a store in the middle of the loop road that includes Laurel Ridge, Hickory Hollow, and Big Brook Spur campgrounds. The Squirrel's Nest and Little Brook Spur are a bit further from the store than the other camping areas but there are wide trails that lead to the "Trading Post." The store sells drinks, snacks, souvenirs, nature books, basic camping and fishing supplies, firewood, ice, and other items. They adjust their hours according to the season and campground occupancy. The Trading Post does close for the winter.

Roughing It! - eating at the Lodge

The Unicoi Lodge is a short drive from the campgrounds. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. Helen is also not far away and they have many restaurants - just in case you want to skip cooking a meal in camp.
